2023-24-Where we've been these past few months and other tales....

"As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases." https://homeschoolspecneedstidbits.com/affiliate-disclosure/ * I decided to go back to school to get my master's degree in psychology.  *Our autistic son is entering his final year of high school and will be graduating in the spring of 2024( fingers crossed ). *Our oldest is working hard with a full-time job, is an entrepreneur and goes to college full time.  *Hubby is an awesome supporter, partner, and overall best friend for all that we have endured throughout out our 25+ years love affair.  Life is busy and sometimes I don't get to blog as much as I would like to but when I do, it is worth it in the end. I still have lots to say when it comes to being an advocate for our son and it will continue. We have learned that there are not a lot of programs out there, in regard to post high school, but there are jobs that may or may not work. It is a matter of going out there and getting your special needs son or d

A Tale of Two Types of Learning in the Midst of a Pandemic/ COVID-19 ..

Lots of people lost their lives and the normal that most people came to know and love changed forever. Some people, especially educators, were not sure how they were going to educate all of their students in Kindergarten-12th grade, especially those with special needs.  Make back to school easy with schedules, fidgets and sitting wedges from NationalAutismResources.com Some school districts did not know what to do and were faced with how they were going to educate students online and address the needs of those that struggled already academically, emotionally, financially

We Are in a Lockdown for 4 Weeks....****SIGH***

"As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases." https://homeschoolspecneedstidbits.com/affiliate-disclosure / This past weekend our governor pretty much "shut most everything down" with some new restrictions because of COVID-19 . These are his most hardcore restrictions yet. Unfortunately for us, in our state, the numbers are increasing sharply and are not going down. So we are going to be shut in for awhile. Now what can we do to keep ourselves sane during lock down ? Some things that come to mind are: 1.  Watching A Movie 2. Take a Nap 3. Exercise 4. Play a Game And last but certainly not least we can,  5. Read a Book Have an awesome day today and stay safe out there. Practice safe social distancing and please wear a mask.  By MomAdvocate

TGIF! What are Your Plans for the Weekend?

"As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases." https://homeschoolspecneedstidbits.com/affiliate-disclosure/   Good Morning and Happy Friday! How are you doing today? I picked out this picture because it is definitely how I feel today with everything that is happening in the world. Sometimes you have to just let your hair down and get silly with yourself. Life comes at you fast and you have to decide if you are going to let the world and peoples' actions squelch your spirit or just get childish and enjoy the moment. When COVID-19 hit it was such an overwhelming state of mind in our household and around the country, but what I did see and am still very proud to see is people coming together and helping each other out. So even though it seems a bit crazy now, take time to savor every day and let your loved ones know you love them. At the end of the day, no one has the right to take away your happiness or peace of mind.  Have an awesome weekend! By MomAdvocate

Loving You is Easy:-) It is the Parenting that is Hard.....

My thoughts on this quote... It says it all really. This remote learning for us has been an up and down transition. There have been many days of struggle and tears, arguments, and more is coming but loving you is definitely the easy part.  Be Safe out there.....This pandemic is really trying us, as a family on all fronts but we are taking it one day at a time.  ~M.

Our Son's Program No Longer Exists....Now What?

We recently learned that our son's ILC classroom is GONE! Not sure what the road will be like ahead, but we are trying to pick up the pieces and find a pathway for his education and journey. Not sure what to feel, but we are definitely concerned and disappointed with how this was all handled, in regards to students who are autistic and have or need lots of academic support and accommodations.    At the end of the day, all that matters is that we find a way to educate our autistic teenage son the best way we know how, hopefully with the school district's guidance and options/resources available to him and us as well. Keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the best in a situation that could have gone better.      Transitions. Disappointment. Hopeful outcomes and a way forward.  Sincerely,  ~Mandu

Transitioning to a Full Day in Middle School

Good Evening Everyone,  I know it has been awhile since I posted but there has been so many changes coming up and our family is buckling down to see what happens in the days to follow. You see, our son is attending school for a Full day in a public school setting for the first time and he has not done this for over 11 years.  I could sugar coat this and say how thrilled we are and look forward to this major milestone in our lives and his, but we have seen the possibility of what if this doesn't work out:-(. What is reassuring is that we know that he will have support, 1:1, peer support, para support and otherwise. But the what if's outweigh the possibilities of success because in our parental expertise and background experiences, it did not go well in the past. He will be taking two general education classes in the 6th grade level class, we are unaware of how big these general education classes are, but hope that they will not be too overwhelming. We will just have to wait a
