Welcome to August 2024!
If you have been following us all along, thanks for continuing this journey with us and raising our adult autistic son. There have been times when my patience has been tested, and other times, I just want to crawl into bed and/or be able to call my late mom up to talk about parenting. I often listen to my inner voice and gumption to never give up and keep going. This summer of 2024 has definitely been one of those times.
Our autistic son just graduated from high school, and although we have him involved in needed therapies for his sanity(and ours), there are still times that are tough for him, and transitioning is just hard, plain, and simple. Thankfully, we can have our downtimes and uptimes, too, when we can just exhale and breathe. We, at least myself, try to keep up with what going on in our world at this time on the news( never good news, always negative), so then I avoid it at all costs. No need to get my positive vibes all messed up with the negative in the world that I cannot change.
My mom used to say that friends are the ones who stick around through thick and thin, and those who don't were never your friends to begin with, even if it is family. So take every moment and time as a blessing and go the distance, especially if you are a parent of a special needs son or daughter. When you deal with caring for a special needs individual every day, you tend to "see" fake a mile away. Yet still have an open heart to others who are willing to take the journey along with us and be genuine in their friendships.
Take care of each other and your sanity because no one else is going to take better care of you.
Keep shining and advocating!
