Good afternoon Everyone,

August is winding down and we are in the last few weeks of summer vacation. Did you create some memories? As a homeschooling mom to an older autistic teenager my job as a mom and homeschooler is a bit more involved, especially when it comes to homeschooling a student on the spectrum.

When we started homeschooling our youngest, there were so many homeschooling workbooks to navigate and figure out what would work best for my child. Sometimes you have to go through a lot of trial and error to get it right.

If this is your first time starting your homeschool journey with a special needs child, look at all the options available to you. We had tried it all:

1. Public School
2. Co-Op Homeschool
3. Part-Time Homeschooling
4. Remote Public School

Fortunately for us, because we had tried everything else, including what types of accommodations he would need and unfortunately, we did not find that in the options above.

It was only after and during the pandemic, where we saw the disparities in our local public school district that we were able to make an informed and final decision. Sometimes this works out for parents with special needs children and their local school district where the communication, IEP meetings and overall transparency of your special needs child's progress is easily accessible. This was not the case for us.

We chose WACA (Washington Connections Academy) because of their strong communication, access to our child's academic progress reports on a monthly basis, transparency in how our special needs son was doing academically/ emotionally and an overall sense of belonging and being a valued member of the Washington Connections community.

To learn more about what makes Connections unique visit WACA . If you are interested in learning more and speaking with a school representative call 1-800-481-0756 and mention that you were referred by an existing family.

I hope you have a fantastic rest of your summer vacation and that wherever you are in your homeschool journey that it works out for you.

Warm Regards,

~Mandu (aka MomAdvocate)

Happy Spring! Happy Autism Awareness Month!

"As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases." https://homeschoolspecneedstidbits.com/affiliate-disclosure/ Happy Tuesday to you! It has been a minute. We have been busy with school; both my autistic son, my neurotypical daughter, and I are all remotely doing our studies online, and it can be interesting at times. Sometimes, we see one another in the evening or afternoon, but we always sit down together for dinner, which is a blessing. Mainly just to talk about our days and see how each other is doing, although we are all in the same home we all have different lives and schedules, LOL!  What did you all do for spring break? We had a severe staycation, during which we rested, binged, and relaxed some more. It was such a fun time, and it was sad that it was only 5-7 days, but at least we all were there together. I hope this post finds you all safe, enjoying your families, and creating long-lasting memories.  Until next time, take care of yourself and each other....

Have an Awesome Labor Day Weekend 2022!

A Tale of Two Types of Learning in the Midst of a Pandemic/ COVID-19 ..

Lots of people lost their lives and the normal that most people came to know and love changed forever. Some people, especially educators, were not sure how they were going to educate all of their students in Kindergarten-12th grade, especially those with special needs.  Make back to school easy with schedules, fidgets and sitting wedges from NationalAutismResources....
